Dinner: A Love Story: It all begins at the family table By Jenny Rosenstrach Cover Image
$29.99
ISBN: 9780062080905
Availability: Not On Our Shelves, But Available from Warehouse - Usually Delivers in 3-14 Days
Published: Ecco - June 5th, 2012

One of my favorite cookbooks ever! Rosenstrach (who writes the Dinner: A Love Story blog) knows good food and loves good food, but is also a very busy working mom. Her cookbook is one of the few I’ve read (and used) that really gets how hard it can be to get a good dinner on the table every single night. Her recipes are not daunting, but they are delicious (the Yogurt Marinated Chicken is life-altering) and her time-saving tips are fantastic. What I also love is that she’s a smart and funny writer (plus she’s super into books) so reading this is an absolute pleasure. She’s a huge advocate for family dinners, makes crowd-pleasing dishes, and likes a cocktail in the evening: In other words, she’s fantastic. Get this book! — S.B

Vietnamese Food Any Day: Simple Recipes for True, Fresh Flavors [A Cookbook] By Andrea Nguyen Cover Image
$24.99
ISBN: 9780399580352
Availability: On Our Shelves Now
Published: Ten Speed Press - February 5th, 2019

You can't go wrong with any of award-winning author Andrea Nguyen's outstanding cookbooks which are often a deep dive into a particular dish or ingredient (tofu, pho, bahn mi, dumplings). Nguyen is a fantastic teacher who makes even the most detailed recipes doable, but Vietnamese Food Any Day is perhaps her most accessible yet. (My 12-year-old daughter is even cooking from it!) By using ingredients that are commonly found at local grocery stores, Nguyen makes it easy to incorporate delicious Vietnamese food into busy weeknight cooking. From Shaking Beef to Rice Paper Rolls to Shrimp in Coconut Caramel Sauce, Nguyen shares quick dishes that don't compromise on flavor. This cookbook is a game-changer at our house, and will likely be at yours, too. — S.B.

When I say I'm a terrible cook, I want you to understand my full meaning. Sometimes I have nightmares about being on Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay yelling at me because I CERTAINLY don't deserve to be there. I'm a baker, not a cook. This cookbook gave me the courage to set aside the measuring cups and timers to actually cook something delicious. Nosrat's decision to use illustrations rather than picture reminds us that food doesn't have to look perfect to be perfect. — Ivy

Published: Chronicle Books - April 23rd, 2019

I have rarely met a cookbook written by a farmer that I haven’t liked (and frequently loved— hello, Ian Knauer’s The Farm). Abra Berens’s Ruffage continues that wonderful streak. People who actually grow food seem to have an understanding of, and reverence for, produce that is hard to match. Berens channels that passion into her fantastic book, which is organized by vegetable. Her recipes and advice (selecting, storing) manage to be inspiring and practical at the same time. I love her Midwestern charm and sensibility, and her recipes (with their many variations) are spot-on delicious. — S.B.
