The Book Doctors, aka Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry, authors of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published, will be visiting Bookshop Santa Cruz again, for another round of their wonderful Pitchapalooza event. At this “American Idol for books,” writers get one minute to pitch their book ideas, and then receive a detailed critique from Eckstut and Sterry, co-founders of The Book Doctors, and two other participating guest panelists.
At Pitchapalooza, judges will help you improve your pitch, not tell you how bad it is. Judges critique everything from idea to style to potential in the marketplace and much, much more. Authors come away with concrete advice as well as a greater understanding of the ins and outs of the publishing industry. Whether potential authors pitch themselves, or simply listen to trained professionals critique each presentation, Pitchapalooza is educational and entertaining for one and all.
To get a chance to pitch, you must have a copy of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published with you that night. The book can be the copy you purchased last year at Bookshop Santa Cruz, when this winning team was here before, or a new book that you purchase between now and the night of the event. (Anyone who purchases a new copy on the book the night of the event will also receive a code they can turn in that gives them a FREE 20 minute consultation with the Book Doctors--a $100 value). Everyone with a physical copy of The Essential Guide will be given a raffle ticket that night that enters them in for a chance to pitch their book to the panel that evening. At the end of Pitchapalooza, the judges will pick a winner. The winner receives an introduction to an agent or publisher appropriate for his/her book.
