Poetry Workshop with Patrice Vecchione: Lorca
When poet Philip Levine came upon the poetry of Lorca for the first time, he said, “I knew I’d found my master.” Many poets might say the same. This evening we’ll take our poet inspiration from the new translations of Lorca by Sarah Arvio, poet in Spain, as well as from an essay of Levine’s. Lorca, the poet and playwright who was assassinated at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War at the young age of 38 for being a poet and a gay man, the poet who wrote, “I’m afraid of losing the wonder/ of your stony eyes…"
