Retired San Jose Mercury News columnist Lee Quarnstrom will read from his memoir, When I Was a Dynamiter: Or, How a Nice Catholic Boy Became a Merry Prankster, a Pornographer and a Bridegroom Seven Times. Quarnstrom's book is a valuable history of mid-century American Bohemia, the last days of newspaper journalism, and the heyday of psychedelic drugs—including life with his fellow Pranksters and the Grateful Dead as they produced the notorious Acid Tests before joining fugitive author Ken Kesey in Mexico.

Former beatnik, former member of novelist Kesey’s famed Merry Band of Pranksters, retired journalist and one-time Executive Editor of Larry Flynt’s notorious Hustler Magazine, Lee Quarnstrom lived in and around Santa Cruz for most of the final 35 years of the 20th Century. His San Jose Mercury News, Watsonville Register-Pajaronian and Santa Cruz Good Times columns and stories informed, amused and frequently angered Monterey Bay area readers for almost three decades!
