Recital of the Dark Verses by Luis Felipe Fabre, translated by Heather Cleary

A darkly entertaining tale, Recital of the Dark Verses takes notes from Cervantes and Dumas and the absurdity of Shakespeare’s comedic mishaps, and never ceases to surprise in gruesome, cadaverous humor. With naive thieves, a perfume-scented corpse, and the many forms of the devil/trickster at play, we traverse the Spanish landscape on the backs of donkeys while debating whether verses written by St. John of the Cross were ecstatically written for God or for an illicit lover. Delight yourself in this playful but wise comedy of errors.

Removal Acts by Erin Marie Lynch

Through a hybrid collection of poetry, found documents, and photography, Erin Marie Lynch’s accessible debut powerfully draws the reader into the complications of reckoning with the past while finding meaning in the present. Lynch’s honesty and vulnerability explode onto the page, creating an intimate portrait that feels both deeply personal and universal. The line “I live because you lived through” echoes deeply within me now. A stunning collection that vibrates far beyond the last page.

Fear of a Black Universe by Stephon Alexander

In reading Fear of a Black Universe, not only do we experience the expansive mind of a brilliant physicist as we delve into cosmic potentialities, we also break away from traditional narratives to explore why creativity, imagination, and the uplifting of marginalized scientists are necessary components of making new discoveries. Quantum physics is still largely a complete mystery, and it is in the unknown that we get to dream what is possible. This book reaches far beyond the ordinary boundaries of physics and is a radical, immersive journey of the mind.
