I Love You So Much It’s Killing Us Both by Maria Stovall

In Mariah Stovall’s debut novel, she dives deep into obsession, codependency, mental illness, and the 2010s punk scene. After over ten years of estrangement, Khaki receives a plea in the mail from Fiona for the two of them to reconnect, much to Khaki’s apprehension. Stovall is a very talented writer, deeply unsettling the reader as Khaki becomes all consumed with her obsessions, as well as struggling with both Fiona’s and her own eating disorder.

The Apartment House on Poppy Hill by Nina LaCour

Nina LaCour’s first venture into early-reader chapter books is filled with her signature lyrical prose, attention to detail, and warm sincerity. Nine-year-old Ella loves her home and cares about all of her neighbors. She greets the new couple who have just moved in downstairs, lends a helping hand whenever she can, and investigates the mysterious elusive residents of the upstairs apartment. A beautiful portrayal of the importance of community, a book that welcomes readers with open arms.

Ghost Book by Remy Lai

When July Chen, a twelve-year-old girl who can see ghosts, rescues William Xiao, the two kids learn that their pasts are eerily connected. Years ago, one of them wasn’t supposed to survive and now otherworldly beings are trying to restore that imbalance. Remy Lai brings a light-hearted goofiness to a spooky subject with this story of friendship and the power of being remembered. Great for kids who like ghost stories, but don’t want anything too scary.—Alana

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I have so much love for this series. Maggie Stiefvater creates a truly unforgettable cast of characters and world. Reading The Raven Cycle is an experience. We've got complex characters, magical realism, and codependent friendships. There are twists and turns, romance, and a house of psychics. Not to mention hunts for mythical kings who have been dead for centuries, bee allergies, dreams, storylines that keep guessing, and a whole lot more.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows, my beloved. This book blew my mind with how good it is. It combines so many things I love: heists, magic, complex characters, and a ragtag team brought together by a common goal. I was immediately drawn in from the first page and could not put it down. Action-packed, funny, quick-witted, and filled with complicated relationships, readers will be on the edge of their seats throughout the entire duology.

Mamo by Sas Milledge

Mamo weaves together magic, nature, grief, romance, adventure, and complex family relationships all in one beautiful story. It follows Orla, a witch who must return home after her grandmother passes, and Jo, who quickly bond with Orla after enlisting her help. This book captures all the magic of a Studio Ghibli film with its own unique style. I immediately fell in love with it!

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Howl's Moving Castle is a department-wide staff favorite and for very good reason. It's a book you could read again and again and get lost in every time. It's filled with magic, excellent worldbuilding, and twists you won't see coming (even if you've seen the Studio Ghibli adaptation). It's also incredibly funny. Through the book and movie are different from each other, both are unique magical. Sophie and Howl will forever be iconic.
