Someone Could Get Hurt by Drew Magary

This hilarious collection of writings about fatherhood was just what this new mom needed. Magary pulls no punches as he presents the very honest portrait of a flawed father who really wants to love, cherish, and nurture his kids, but who really needs that extra hour of sleep and doesn’t quite know how to handle his screaming children. While totally worth reading just for the humorous take on some of parenting’s challenges, the book has a good heart and a great take-away message.

My Two Moms by Zach Wahls

Teenager Zach Wahls inspired many when he spoke on behalf of gay marriage in front of the Iowa House of Representatives in 2011. After his speech was posted on YouTube, it went viral, inspiring many more. Zach is a son we would all want--articulate, handsome, and compassionate. This book is a message to same-sex couples, their children, and the doubtful. For the doubtful, see what happens when a child is raised with courage and love--no matter what the gender of their parents.
