I opened this cookbook and my mouth literally started watering. I’ve been a die-hard fan of the magazine Lucky Peach since Issue 1 (“Ramen”) in 2011. However, many of its recipes were not accessible for those cooks without access to industrial kitchens. 101 Easy Asian Recipes changes that. With clear guides to ingredients that might be unfamiliar (but are easily obtained) Peter Meehan and the editors have favored deliciousness and simplicity over authenticity, with results you shouldn’t wait to taste.  —Jocelyn

I love that Yotam Ottolenghi’s previous book, Plenty, not only found its audience, but became a national bestseller. Filled with recipes for vibrant, Middle Eastern-inspired vegetable dishes, Plenty had many of us stocking up on new ingredients—and reaping the rewards. Now Ottolenghi returns with Plenty More. From Honey-Roasted Carrots with Tahini Yogurt to Tomato and Almond Tart, his new collection of recipes once again inspires. Absolutely fantastic.

When Cal Peternell, chef at Chez Panisse, realized that his college-bound son had no idea how to cook (despite growing up eating great food) he came up with this introduction to the kitchen. More than a collection of recipes, it is also a cooking course—one that shows how learning basics, then building upon them, will give any cook confidence. There is so much good food and great instruction in this book—not to mention gorgeous photographs and illustrations—that we can see this becoming an absolute classic.

I am a huge fan of Gabrielle Hamilton. I inhaled Blood, Bones & Butter, her stunning 2011 memoir about her life as a chef, but the whole time I read it I found myself craving a cookbook to go along with it (I’m a greedy reader). Now my wish has been granted in the form of Prune, which features dazzling photography and recipes for the sophisticated-but-completely-unpretentious appetizers, cocktails and entrees that Hamilton has become deservedly famous for.

One of the most anticipated cookbooks of the fall is this beauty from Southern chef Sean Brock. The James Beard Award-winning chef is committed to preserving and celebrating heritage foods, but isn’t afraid to reinterpret how they are used. (You’ll find a recipe for Creamed Corn, but also for Corn-Goat Cheese Soup with Shrimp and Brown Butter Chanterelles.) Anthony Bourdain calls Brock, “One of the most important chefs in America…an absolutely transformative figure. His food manages to amaze without ever being pretentious or inaccessible. You, too, can cook this stuff. And you should.”

Everything about this book is exciting—the zest, passion, and character of the author, the gorgeous photography, and the mouth-watering recipes. Argentinean chef Francis Mallmann’s previous cookbook, Seven Fires, was a knockout, and his newest does not disappoint. In it, Mallman explores the world of open fire cooking in every imaginable setting: In winter's snow, on mountaintops, on the beach, on the crowded streets of Manhattan, on a deserted island in Patagonia, in Paris, Brooklyn, Bolinas, Brazil. “This one could be one of the best books out this year.” —Eater

This fantastic collection of authentic dishes from Mexico features 700 recipes from across the country as well as an introduction to Mexican culinary history and ingredients. From street food to snacks, tostados to Tres Leches Cake, Carrillo’s book, written for home cooks, showcases the richness and diversity of Mexican cuisine. Like all cookbooks from Phaidon, it is also beautifully designed and gorgeous to look at. I want to make everything in this book!

I am absolutely fascinated by restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson—both by his life story (chronicled in his memoir, Yes, Chef) and by his multicultural cooking—so I’m really excited to pick up this collection of recipes that he cooks at home. Born in Ethiopia, raised in Sweden, and now living in Harlem, Samuelsson’s eclectic recipes blend a rainbow of flavors but are always inviting and so delicious.
