What is an e-gift card? 

An e-gift card is a digital code that can be used to purchase items on a website.

What's the difference between an e-gift card and your regular gift cards?

An e-gift card is an online code that can be redeemed for a set value on our website, that are e-mailed to your recipient. Bookshop Santa Cruz's regular gift cards are physical gift cards that can be redeemed for a set value over the phone (831-423-0900), in our store, and on our website, using a code printed on the back of the card. Physical gift cards must be physically mailed to the recipient or picked up, whereas e-gift cards are e-mailed.

How do I send an e-gift card? Does my recipient get sent an e-mail automatically?

To send an e-gift card, go to this page here and fill out the amount you want the e-gift card for, your recipient's e-mail address, and any message you would like to include. You will then submit payment information through the check-out process. Once our staff processes your order and marks it "Complete," your e-gift card, with your message, will be emailed to your recipient.

How does my recipient redeem an e-gift card/How do I redeem an e-gift card?

Any recipient of an e-gift card will receive an email with the amount of the gift card and the e-gift card number in bold. When checking out on our website, under "Payment Method" select "Online Only Gift Code" and enter the e-gift card number under "Online Only Gift Code". You will need to check "Check Gift Code Balance to Continue" to process your order. 

What if my e-gift card doesn't cover the cost of my entire order?

No worries! If your e-gift card balance does not cover the total cost of your order, you'll be prompted to enter a credit or debit card number immediately, to cover the rest of the order.

Can I use more than one e-gift card on a single order?

You can use up to two e-gift cards on any single online order. Please enter both e-gift card numbers in the "Online Only Gift Code" box on the check screen, with a comma separating each number.

What if I have money left over on my e-gift card after I submit an order?

If you submit an online order using your e-gft card, and you still have a balance left, you can absolutely use it on a future online order - simply save the e-gift card number to be used at a later date.

Can I save my e-gift card to my account on your website, to be used at a later date?

We do not have an option at this time to save e-gift card numbers to specific accounts, but we are working on it! Please in the meantime just hold onto your e-gift card code until you are able to use it's full balance.

How can I check how much is left on an e-gift card?

I've lost my e-gift card number; how can I retrieve it? 

If you still have a balance on your e-gift card, but have lost the e-gift card number, please e-mail, and include the e-mail address that the e-gift card was originally sent to, to help us look up your e-gift card.

Can I use an e-gift card over the phone or in the store?

Not yet, but we are working on that! For now, e-gift cards can only be used on . If you would like to purchase and/or send a gift card that can be used in the store, over the phone, AND on our website, please purchase a physical gift card (that can be shipped to your recipient in the mail) here.

What if I want to send a physical gift card that my recipient can use on your website?

No problem! If you would like a physical gift card that can be used on our website, please purchase a Gift Card here, rather than an e-gift card. Physical gift cards will have a number on the back that can be used at check-out to purchase items on our website, as well as being able to be redeemed over the phone (831-423-0900) or in our store.
