While the other Photo Ark collections line my bookshelves like fine art, Vanishing is like a tattoo: painful in its permanence. Sartore focuses on the species most at risk, and the raw intimacy his photos are known for increases with each passing page. Peppered throughout this keepsake coffee table book are testimonials, ways to help save even the smallest snail. I can’t help but wonder how drastically the numbers of species will have changed from the review copy I saw to the finished book on the shelf.
