Staff Reviews

This is one of the only books that I re-read, usually on rainy nights with a mug of tea. It’s a completely fascinating take on the murder mystery, in that you find out who the murderer is on the first page, but the book never loses an ounce of suspense. I still have no idea how Donna Tartt pulled that off, but I’m happy to read it again and again in search of clues.

— Kat

I never thought I'd feel sympathetic towards a group of sociopathic classics majors who decide to murder one of their own, and yet. Donna Tartt's gift lies in targeting the most terrible things about a person and framing them in a golden, flawless light, and leaving the reader emotionally wrecked for life. I will cherish this book like a dark, guilty dream.

— Andrea

A READ WITH JENNA BOOK CLUB PICK INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • A contemporary literary classic and "an accomplished psychological thriller ... absolutely chilling" (Village Voice), from the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Goldfinch.

Under the influence of a charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at a New England college discover a way of thought and life a world away from their banal contemporaries. But their search for the transcendent leads them down a dangerous path, beyond human constructs of morality.

“A remarkably powerful novel [and] a ferociously well-paced entertainment.... Forceful, cerebral, and impeccably controlled.” —The New York Times
