FREE IN-STORE EVENT: Bookshop welcomes Khushbu Shah, food writer, journalist, and former restaurant editor at Food & Wine magazine, for a celebration of her terrific debut cookbook Amrikan: 125 Recipes from the Indian American Diaspora. Shah will be in conversation with award-winning culinary writer Andrea Nguyen.

KHUSHBU SHAH is a food writer and journalist who resides in Los Angeles, California. She was most recently the restaurant editor at Food & Wine magazine, where she crisscrossed the United States several times over on the hunt for the country’s best new chefs. She is the youngest person and the first person of color to ever hold that title. You can also find her work in the New York TimesWashington PostGQEater, and more. Additionally, her writing has been featured in the Best American Food Writing anthologies, and she has made appearances on television shows like Ugly Delicious. Khushbu grew up in Michigan, where her immigrant parents raised her with a deep appreciation for spices and good fruit. This is her debut cookbook.

A culinary bridge builder and leading authority on Asian cuisines, ANDREA NGUYEN was born in Vietnam and came to America at the age of six. She has authored seven acclaimed books, including The Pho Cookbook, a James Beard Award winner. Epicurious named her one of the top 100 greatest home cooks of all time. Andrea’s new cookbook, Ever-Green Vietnamese, is a stunner filled with modern interpretations of traditional Vietnamese plant-based cooking. The New York TimesSan Francisco ChronicleFood and Wine, and others included it among the top 2023 cookbooks. The Beard Foundation just named the book as a 2024 cookbook award finalist! (Winners to be announced on June 8.) She lives in Santa Cruz, where she develops recipes, writes, and podcasts. Andrea publishes and Pass the Fish Sauce (a Substack newsletter).
