The Beautiful Ones by Prince

Though Prince has shed his mortal coil, I am utterly convinced he will never die. I’ve been a huge fan since the ’80s, when his unique voice, ridiculously witty lyrics, and irresistible dance grooves started taking over the airwaves. In addition to being a great songwriter, producer, singer, performer, dancer…the list goes on…he was also one of the best rock guitarists of all time. If you’re in doubt about this, listen again to “Let’s Go Crazy.” In any case, here, astonishingly, is the scrapbook/lyric sheet/photo collage/memoir-ish book he was working on when he transitioned to his next level of artistic brilliance. Like everything he ever created, it is utterly amazing. - Rico

Home Work by Julie Andrews

Julie Andrews begins her second memoir where her first, Home, left off, with her Hollywood entrance and the quick succession of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Writing with heart, candor, and an authentic invitation into her world of hard work, show business, family, and self, Andrews has crafted the most considerate tell-all possible, taking care with her reader as well as with the movies and experiences that have made her life so extraordinary. It is a delight to spend time with her, practically perfect in every way. - Melinda

Movies (And Other Things) by Shea Serrano illus. by Arturo Torres

You know that friend who will endlessly debate Marvel plot points or keep trying to get you to watch that one movie that you’ve hardly heard of? Oh wait—you are that friend? Buddy, do I have a book for you. Shea Serrano is passionate, nerdy, and funny, and with the help of Arturo Torres’s pop culture–perfect illustrations, has rants and debates you have never even thought of. You will devour each point, paragraph, and ridiculously meaningless/ful idea that fills these pages. - Jocelyn

Carrie Fisher: A Life on the Edge by Sheila Weller

Carrie Fisher’s legacy is complex and intriguing. A champion of mental health and nerddom, she wasn’t a perfect person, but she was so cool, famous for always being herself. This book is a love letter to Carrie. It also gives a deep look into the Hollywood royalty with whom she grew up. It is the perfect homage to our foul-mouthed space princess. I loved every dramatic minute of it. - Ivy

Music: A Subversive History by Ted Gioia

Music scholar extraordinaire Ted Gioia’s new book is a sweeping history of epic proportions. Ranging from the music of antiquity to the advent of modern streaming services, the book explores music’s dynamic relationship to culture, politics, and power. While the material is vast, Gioia’s sharp wit and astute observations make this a rewarding read. If music plays as important a role in your life as it does in mine, pick this one up. - Travis

Me: Elton John by Elton John

I have loved Elton John and his music almost longer than I can remember. His music bonded me with my family, his queerness and refusal to bend to anyone’s rules inspired me, and his astronomical rise to stardom despite all the drama in his life is nothing short of astonishing. I can’t wait to discover more about the man behind the Rocketman, told in the same refreshingly honest and dynamite style that Elton has always had. - Jax

Out Loud by Mark Morris

Celebrated choreographer Mark Morris looks back on his dance career in this candid and often humorous memoir. “Out Loud is the story of a brilliant, complex artist, a keen observer and interpreter of the world around him, guided by one constant purpose: to create dance. This hard-to-put-down book illuminates the mind of an irreducible visionary and the art form that shaped him.” —Yo-Yo Ma
