I’ve been a docent at Natural Bridges State Beach for almost five years, and this is my favorite field guide to take out to the tidepools. It is clearly organized and brimming with bright, beautiful photographs, making identification easy, even with waves crashing all around you. I grew up borrowing from my father’s shelf of Audobon field guides, and years later I still consider them the best. Grab one and go get your feet wet! --Kat

As Huckleberry Finn learned more than 100 years ago, a journey on the river is not just an escape, but a way to find one’s self. Eliss’s life has never been easy, except in her oldest dreams of childhood – but the river offers refuge from prejudice, and discovery of her unknown strengths, and unrealized passions. The river hides snags that can pull you underneath, but above it keeps flowing, towards the light-dappled waters of summer. --Jocelyn

Feeling complicit in a 1971 oil spill in the San Francisco Bay, John Francis decided to stop riding in motor vehicles. Shortly thereafter, he gave up speaking as well. Written in simple, elegant prose, and illustrated with Francis' watercolors and sketches, Planetwalker is an inspiring and compelling story of a personal journey with global implications. It is part nature-writing, part spiritual journal, part political statement, and all wonderful. --Holly

Ashworth is a master gardener, and when it comes to seed saving she means business. Before reading this book, I had no idea that in most plants, each flower needs to be isolated to avoid seeds that yield non-fruiting varieties. Luckily, Ashworth knows every trick to get this job done and more. A must-have reference guide for all gardeners! --Brittany
