Having sat by my mom in the hospital while she survived both cancer and chemotherapy, sustained largely by Kozy Shack Tapioca pudding, cottage cheese, and dubious casseroles from the hospital kitchen, I decided to check out this cookbook after a friend recommended it to me. Rebecca Katz is a generous, humorous, and knowledgeable companion to share the kitchen with. Katz's years of experience in the kitchen, dreaming up ways to help her clients with cancer rediscover their lost appetites, make this book a sort of genie in a bottle for caregivers, cancer survivors, and honestly, anyone who loves good food. Whether you need a new and inspired member of your care-giving team, or want to restore some sparkle and audacity to your cooking, check out this book. -Sarah Miles, New Leaf Creative Director

When I first picked up
this book I thought it would probably read like a typical historical
novel- interesting, but dry. I was delightfully surprised to dive into
a book with plot twists and turns and lots of colorful characters.
Alice's devotion to her vision of simple local foods served in a
community atmosphere prevails and flourishes even though it gets thrown
off track now and again. An exciting story of raising a business in the
times of sex, drugs and rock n roll. -Rex Stewart, New Leaf Co-Owner

It offers a comprehensive, easy-to-use guide for hundreds of health

divided by these categories, and goes even further by including foods

If you are going to
start taking better care of yourself by eating healthier foods, why not
start thinking healthier thoughts? As we strive to eat healthier, I
think our love of good food can get lost in the talk of nutrition,
vitamins and minerals. This book goes a step beyond most health-based
cookbooks by addressing how important it is to be grateful and "have
fun and enjoy nourishing yourself." -Jennifer Brewer, Nutritionist and Natural Chef

Gluten-Free Girl is a
memoir that takes you back to your early childhood treats and your
microwavable dinners, but also reflects on current food issues of mass
production, safety and quality. It's not a cookbook by any means, but a
good journal entry that reflects the struggles of living gluten-free,
while helping to point out the ways to celebrate this lifestyle, and
learn how to better your diet in general.
