Poetry Santa Cruz: Garrett Hongo and Robin Lysne

Garrett Hongo was born in Volcano, Hawai’i and grew up on the North Shore of O’ahu and in Los Angeles. He was educated at Pomona College, the University of Michigan, and UC Irvine, where he received an M.F.A. His work includes Coral Road: Poems, three anthologies, Volcano: A Memoir of Hawai’i, and The Mirror Diary: Selected Essays, published this past summer. Recent poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Harvard Review, Poetry, New England Review, Kenyon Review, and Plume. Among his honors are the Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship (to Italy), two NEA grants, and the Lamont Poetry Prize from the Academy of American Poets. He teaches at the University of Oregon, where hi is Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences.

 

Robin Lysne, M.A., M.F.A., PhD., is the author of six books, an artist and Energy Medicine Practitioner, medium, and psychic. Recent books are Handbook to Heart Path, An Energy Medicine Guide, and Poems for the Lost Deer (Blue Bone Books, 2014). She also wrote Heart Path (Blue Bone Books), and Sacred Living and Dancing Up the Moon (Conari Press). She has a novel and memoir in the works. Her poems have been published in North American Review, Porcupine Literary Arts Magazine, Monterey Bay Poetry Review, Rattle, Phren-Z, Porter Gulch Review, Samizdat, Awakening Consciousness Magazine, and elsewhere. Her latest book is Mosaic: New and Collected Poems (Blue Bone Books, 2017), which contains some of her drawings and paintings, as well as poems.

This free event will take place in Bookshop Santa Cruz. Chairs for opening seating are usually set up an hour before the event begins.

Poetry Santa Cruz is dedicated to nurturing the poetry community and bringing poetry to the larger community in Santa Cruz County. We present poetry readings at Bookshop Santa Cruz and other locations in Santa Cruz County, and the Poet/Speak open reading. We also provide free information on other poetry-related events in the area.
