Adventures in Cartooning from The Center for Cartoon Studies (yes, of course it’s real) presents the basics of
cartooning in such a simple, articulate manner that I was enchanted. This book made me remember another drawing book, Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered, that I believe is still a perfect introduction to drawing. Whether or not you are artistically gifted, both of these books make you feel that you are—and it is almost impossible to read them without reaching for a pencil. Ages 9 and up. —G.L.
