Monks in the Middle Ages solving murder mysteries? Sign me up! Not only is this series full of fascinating and accurate details about life in a Benedictine Abbey, Brother Cadfael’s use of early forensics and skilled observation are intellectually engaging while the characters and dramas are emotionally arresting. I’ve long loved these incredible immersive and atmospheric books.

Not what you’re thinking. I mean, yes—there’s sex. But really, what else would you do if you could stop time every time you orgasm, besides robbing banks? Especially with a library at stake? Not to mention (hopefully) true love? This book is as ridiculously fun as it sounds—but also heartbreakingly true about sex, love, and growing alone, until you miraculously find that someone who actually understands. Pretty much the best thing since SAGA.

The Cold Dish is the first book in the witty, well-plotted, character-driven, completely fantastic Longmire series, my favorite ongoing mystery series. Set on the edge of a Cheyenne reservation, Johnson’s stark prose brings the wide, sprawling Wyoming wilds to crackling life while world-weary Sheriff Walt Longmire investigates a revenge killing. I cannot overstate how much I love these characters and books.

Looking for something to fill that Name of the Wind or Game of Thrones void? Look no further! Don’t listen to the talk of swash-buckling on the back cover, this is a book about thieves. Not just any thieves, think Ocean’s 11 con men, wonderfully dastardly and incredibly clever. Set against a backdrop of a fantasy version of Venice, this is one you won’t be able to put down.

In 1881, Tombstone, Arizona is the place to be if you’re looking to make your fortune, as long as you don’t irritate the Earp brothers! You may think you know the legend but you’ve never read it like this! Emma Bull is a terrific writer, and she brings magic to Tombstone in a big way with this atmospheric, engrossing Western fantasy filled with characters of all shades. Territory is a really good book.

In this witty political satire, the government is privatized and capitalism has turned into a lethal game. Hack Nike is drawn into a nefarious scheme to gun down customers who purchase his company's extremely exclusive new sneakers. When Hack’s plan to hand off his murderous responsibilities goes horribly awry, he is pursued by the relentless Jennifer Government. Think Office Space meets 1984, with more software viruses and assassinations.
