Thomas Hansen Hickenbottom is a fourth generation native of California's central coast who has been actively involved in Santa Cruz surf culture for the past five decades. A graduate of UCSC’s Creative Writing and Literature program, his first novel, Local Tribes, is set in Santa Cruz in 1966. He is also the author of Surfing in Santa Cruz.
