Dear Friend of Bookshop,
On February 16th Borders Books announced bankruptcy and listed the Santa Cruz Borders as one of 200 stores they will be closing nationwide as part of a company-wide reorganization. On behalf of myself, my family and all of our employees, I want to take a moment to thank our loyal customers for believing in the value of independent bookstores and for supporting us during the last 10 years. We are incredibly grateful for all that you have done for us and will continue to work hard to earn your ongoing support. We would not be here today without your commitment and look forward to becoming an even better bookstore for you and the community.
We know that the closing of any business and subsequent job layoffs is detrimental to a local economy so today we pledge to reinvest in Bookshop Santa Cruz so that we can continue to help make Santa Cruz economically sustainable and make Downtown Santa Cruz a vibrant place to visit. With your ongoing commitment, we want to build on the last 44 years so that we can last another 44 years in the heart of downtown. To that end, we welcome your feedback on how we can serve you better and look forward to continuing to reinvent ourselves to best reflect the Santa Cruz community.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are your community bookstore and we are eternally grateful.
